About Me

A little about me...

I love God and have a burning desire to serve him with all my heart.

I was born, raised, and continue to live in a very rural town in south Alabama. I have never left. Not even for college...I commuted. Sounds sad, but it's really not. I love it here.

I knew from the time my mind allowed me to know that I wanted to be a mama and a teacher. I grew up to be both. Destiny.

I have one brother who is seven years younger than me. When we were growing up I bossed him a lot. Sometimes I still want to boss him. Just kidding. Kind of. He's very special.

I married my high school sweetheart. We have been married for 24 years.

My daddy owns a logging business. My husband owns a logging business. You marry someone like your father, right?

We have six children, four girls and two boys. Our oldest is 21 (and engaged) and our youngest is eight. Our quiver is full.

I had c-sections with all six. If I could have given birth naturally, our quiver would be even more full.  Yes, we would have more. Children are one of the greatest blessings in this life.

Our children all have names from the bible.

God has performed miracles of healing in our family. One day I will share those stories here.

I was a stay at home mom for 13 years. I am so, so thankful for this blessing from God. When I first began staying at home, I didn't see it as a blessing but oh how God changed my heart. My fondest memories are those from the years I spent at home with our children. If I could rewind the clock....

We built our home right behind my parents home. Long story. I meant it when I said I never moved away.

I began teaching seven years ago at the school our children attend. I taught third grade for four years, and now teach first. First is where my heart is. Precious.

My husband and I lead the youth group at our church. Love them.

I used to be a "real" perfectionist. My children have cured some of that. Now I'm just a "kind of" perfectionist.

I'm afraid to fly. I'm afraid of a lot of things. Its a battle. I think I think too much. I'm working on it.

I love working in my yard. It calms me and I love seeing the immediate progress.

Crowds make me nervous. Even crowds of people I know.

Small talk is very difficult for me. I usually get nervous and end up saying something stupid. That's why I try to keep quiet. I'm more of a listener unless I know you very well.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Here you'll find ideas and lessons shared from one of my life passions...teaching precious children! Come by again really soon!!

  1. Hello Susan!
I am a first grade teacher and love your blog! I am excited to start a character education program at my school. I want to use your Character Ed packet and posters but need a few more to make our program complete. I would be willing to not only buy the packet, additional for each teacher, but also any extra for the new posters.
Our school needs integrity- which is our overall theme and all the traits play into being a person of integrity.
We also need Empathy- or empathetic, which can be compassion, just need the word to be empathetic
    Accountable-same as responsible-
Thank you so much for sharing so many of your wonderful ideas! As a Christian teacher in the public school system I am so excited to use your posters! Please let me know if you are able to add these three extra traits and the cost.
    Thank you,
    Joanie Smith
